Weir works hailed

A RIVER in the region which has been inaccessible to fish for over 100 years has been reopened after an innovative approach was taken to remove a disused weir.

The Davington Weir removal project in Eskdalemuir was carried out by the Water Environment Fund (WEF) team, in collaboration with landowners, SEPA and the Ayrshire Rivers Trust.

And the result is improved fish migration in the Davington Burn and White Esk. With the burn returned to its natural state, the revived habitat will also enable more fish to thrive upstream too.
