The town’s community council are keen on replacing the worn-out and out-dated signs that welcome visitors into the area.
And new community councillor Hayley Nicholson has been tasked with the project and has come back with a couple of quotes and design ideas.
And there’s hope to get two new signs – in black and gold – with the community council coat of arms on them.
Mrs Nicholson also believes they need to upgrade the other smaller Lockerbie signs.
At Tuesday’s meeting, she said: “The other Lockerbie signs that are sticky-taped need changed. They are vandalised and filthy. They’ll be about eight of them across the town.”
Community council chairman Ian McLatchie added: “We will need to make a decision of what we want and will have to ask for permission after that.
“We are wanting to change the sign. The black and gold design is really lovely and really eye-catching.
“But we’ll need to get permission from Dumfries and Galloway Council and once we do we’ll have to ask the Lockerbie people if they like it.”
When asked about what they will need permission for, Annandale North Ward Officer Scott McMeeken responded: “It depends on the size of the sign and the location of what signs you want changed.”
The group will discuss the matter in further detail at their next monthly meeting.
