We're getting the best out of Brennan!

QUEEN of the South manager Peter Murphy believes he’s “getting the best” out of key player Brennan Dickenson.

The 31-year-old has been a standout player for the Doonhamers since Murphy put the Englishman up tops for his side.

The marquee summer signing has played a number of positions during his debut Palmy season including centre back, left wing back, centre mid and left wing before he was drafted into the forward role.

His contributions over the past few games – including scoring a stunner against St Mirren in the Scottish Cup and setting up Jordan Allan for the winner over Inverness on Tuesday night – has not gone unnoticed.

STRIKE . . . Dickenson nets against St Mirren

Murphy said: “Brennan looks really confident and he is proving to be hard for the opposition to handle.

“For our third goal against Inverness, the way he slips Jordan in was brilliant.

“It’s that extra bit of quality in the final third that opens up the goal for Jordan. We’re delighted for Brennan.”

However, it has been a stop-start campaign for Dickenson where he has picked up a couple of hamstring injuries.

And when he went down during the first half against the Buddies last Saturday, Murphy admitted he was concerned.

DOWN BUT NOT OUT . . . Dickenson received treatment but was able to continue

But after a half time chat with his gaffer, Dickenson was adamant he was able to solider on for the team.

Murphy added: “We were worried on Saturday because Brennan looked like he suffered a bad knee and ankle knock in the first half against St Mirren.

“He hobbled about for five minutes, went down and got some treatment.

“At half time I said to Brennan that we’re 2-0 down in the Scottish Cup and we’ve got two massive games coming up this week. If you are not right then I need you to let us know to come off because I don’t want to take that risk.

“Brennan said he was fine and would play through it for the team.

“That goes to show what type of character Brennan is and we’re getting the best out of him at this moment in time.”
