Whitesands under water

THE Whitesands in Dumfries was shut for a second day of flooding in the area on Wednesday.

And the water was reported to be up to four feet in places and also spread into the surrounding streets.

Police and council workers sealed off the area and closed car parks at Greensands and Dock Park.

Dumfries and Galloway Council said water levels peaked and then slowly receded, before diversions were later lifted.

Meanwhile, melting snow and rain has cause flooding in the Nith Valley and mid Annandale.
