Whitesands warning

FLOODING is ‘imminent’ on the Whitesands after a night of heavy rain.

And police are appealing to vehicle owners who still have their cars there to move them as soon as possible.

A force spokesman said: “The information from SEPA is that the River Nith will burst its banks and flood both car parks, with water possibly reaching Brewery Street/ Bank Street & Dockhead.

“Whitesands is closed. Unfortunately cars are still parked on Whitesands. If your vehicle is parked there then please move it.”
Bus services have been relocated to Buccleuch Street until the situation improves.
Dumfries and Galloway is currently subject to an amber weather warning from the Met Office for persistent rain until this evening.
There are reports of standing water on roads around the region and drivers are being urged to take care when out and about.
