MSPs Oliver Mundell and Colin Smyth are both asking people in Dumfries and Galloway to nominate those who make a difference to their communities.
Dumfriesshire politician Mr Mundell said: “The opening of the Scottish Parliament is a perfect opportunity to celebrate the unsung heroes across Scotland including those from here in Dumfriesshire.”
He added: “There are people in Dumfriesshire who are making a difference every day in their communities and they deserve to have their work recognised.”
And South of Scotland MSP Colin Smyth added: “I know that so many people from the local area give up their time selflessly to make a positive contribution to the lives of others – often without recognition.
“I would urge everyone to think about a local hero from their community and nominate them to attend what I am sure will be a memorial day.”
The Local Heroes will be able to watch the Queen opening the new session of the Parliament on July 2, take part in the procession along the Royal Mile and then enjoy the ‘Big Day Out’ fun day.
