A SILENT vigil will take place in Newton Stewart this weekend against plans for more windfarms locally.
The event in Dashwood Square on Sunday afternoon is being organised by the Ditch the Blair Hill Project.
Participants will be protesting against the proposals for windfarms at Cumloden and Glentrool, which cumulatively would feature 40 turbines standing 820 feet tall.
They are also concerned about another potential scheme near Three Lochs and the overall impact on the community if they all get the go ahead.
The vigil is being backed by the Hands Off Our Hills (HOOH) campaign group and spokesman Kenny Campbell yesterday said: “HOOH are delighted to support the silent vigil at Dashwood Square on Sunday organised by one of the group members, Rosanne Service.
“Folk from all over the area will be joining together in silent solidarity to continue to raise awareness about the blight of more giant industrial turbines proposed for our area.”
Meanwhile, a survey is being undertaken by the Glentrool Hive to harness the views of residents in the Glentrool and Bargrennan areas on windfarms.
The Hive team want feedback so they can accurately represent the views in their community and decide whether to take a stance on the issue.
