PLANNING permission to begin construction of a new windfarm near Lockerbie has been submitted to the council.
Developers Energiekontor Ltd were granted consent for the nine-turbine project at Corrie Common, eight kilometres north-east of the town, two years ago.
And this week they lodged an application with the local authority’s planning department to begin building the windfarm, which will comprise of “nine wind turbines (max height 190m to blade tip), formation of access tracks, borrow pits, battery storage, temporary construction compound, on-site substation and associated infrastructure”, as stated in the plans.
The ‘Little Hartfell’ development is expected to produce 170,000 megawatt hours of energy each year – and it is estimated to be operational for 30 years once completed.
