Earlier this year staff at the care home made the front page with their appeal to locals to spare a thought – and a stamp – for residents when they jet off on their jollies by sending a postcard to the home. And since their appeal went public they have been inundated with greetings from all corners of the globe.
The home’s Carrie Lupton said: “The response has been amazing. “At last count we had over 300 cards and so many more have arrived since then. One woman, who appears to have toured Scotland, has sent one from what must be every single city or town she’s visited. A lot of people have sent numerous postcards from their holidays, it’s been lovely to see so many people go to the trouble.”
She added: “It’s been great for the residents and helps them remember their own holidays.” So far the most popular destinations have been Blackpool and Largs and the postcard from furthest afield has been Australia.”
Postcards are still welcome and should be addressed to: The Residents of Burnfoot, Burnfoot Hall and Coach House, Ecclefechan, Lockerbie, Scotland, DG11 3LG.
