Woman in hospital after crash

A court has heard that a 62-year-old woman from Thornhill, who received life-threatening injuries in a road accident at Friars’ Carse at the weekend, is improving in hospital – but is still in the high dependency unit.

In court at Dumfries today, the driver of the other vehicle involved, 59-year-old Jonathan Gould, from Portugal, admitted a charge of driving carelessly on the Dumfries to Kilmarnock road, and crossing into the opposing carriageway.
It was stated that Gould, an art restorer who was heading for Kirkcudbright, was seen by a car behind to be swerving from side to side across the roadway.
A solicitor said that Gould could offer no explanation as to how the accident, on Saturday, happened: he had no medical history and his eyesight was alright.
Gould was fined £600 and banned from driving for six months.
