Woman winched off hill

RESCUERS rushed to a summit in the region on Sunday afternoon after a woman hurt her ankle.

Moffat Mountain Rescue Team (MMRT) were scrambled by police at about 3.52 pm to help with the evacuation of the injured walker at Knockendoch near New Abbey.

Phone find technology was used to quickly and accurately locate the casualty and her party not far from the summit of Knockendoch.

As well as 12 team members, the Rescue 199 helicopter arrived on the scene, having picked up two members of MMRT at Sweetheart Abbey

Together, the crews winched the woman into the helicopter to be taken to hospital. They also everyone else safely off the hill.

An MMRT spokesperson said: “The team wishes her all the best in her recovery.”
