Work on new homes could begin by end of year

WORK to deliver 74 new homes in Eastriggs could begin by the end of the year.

And social housing landlord Cunninghame Housing Association has confirmed that every one of the 74 homes – which will be a mix of one to five bedroom properties – will be made available for social rent.

Cunninghame Housing Association bought the land at Stanfield Farm near Annan six years ago, and bosses were delighted when planning permission for the huge development was finally approved by Dumfries and Galloway Council last week.

A spokeswoman for Cunninghame said that they are aiming to get on site by the end of the year, and ideally no later than March 2024, once all other approvals are in place.

She said: “Now that planning permission is in place we can move forward with a bit more pace.

“We have appointed Ashleigh Construction in Dumfries as our contractor. We’ll be working closely with them over the next six months or so working up the proposals.

“It’s fantastic that this development is now moving forward after we purchased the land in 2017 and we look forward to delivering housing in Eastriggs for the community.”

CHA has a strong track record of building quality homes for social rent in the region, having delivered developments including Hallmeadow in Annan, Academy Place in Lockerbie, and the former Halcrow greyhound stadium site in Gretna.

The organisation first acquired the Stanfield Farm land in March 2017 and developed proposals to meet the planning requirements.

A new vehicle access route will be created, along with 169 parking spaces for the residents and visitors, and a play park.
