THIS month Dumfries is set to be wrapped up just in time for Christmas.
And locals are being asked to design their own festive wrapping paper to cover the town with.
D-LUX, organisers of the annual Festival of Lights, a collection of events over three days in January which uses the darkness of the winter nights to display mesmerising light shows, are preparing to make a return over 11 nights.
The ‘Wrap the Toon’ project will see a series of Christmassy projections light up Dumfries High Street between December 11-21 – and organisers are urging locals to submit their own ideas and styles of wrapping paper to be beamed throughout the town centre.
D LUX creative director, Robbie Coleman, said: “We wanted to bring some fun and creativity onto the High Street this festive season and involve as many local people as possible.
“Send us a picture or a scan of your design and we’ll project it around the High Street for everyone to enjoy.”
Sal Cuddihy, events facilitator of the Stove Network, added: “Anyone can take part and you can use anything you like – coloured paper, card, paint, old crisp packets, or you could take picture of a pattern you see out and about, like car lights on wet roads or a stripy sunset.
“The thing is to make it as bold and colourful as possible.”
It is the first of four events taking place over the coming months to substitute their usual program at the end of January, which has been cancelled due to Covid-19.
Designs should be submitted at www.d-lux.org.uk.
