Wylie returns to GT Cup

ROSS Wylie returns to the GT Cup Championship with his sights firmly set on claiming the GTO title that he won in 2021.

The 31-year-old from Thornhill gets his 20th year of motorsport competition underway with the opening two races at Donington Park this weekend.

Wylie will share a rare Brabham BT62 Competition with its owner Paul Bailey in the two 50mins pit-stop races at each event. Ross is a professional racing driver while businessman Bailey is considered a ‘sporting driver’.

Ross made his GT Cup debut in 2019 and scored nine GTO podiums, including six victories, on his way to title success two years ago with Bailey. Kendall Developments will be preparing the Brabham this year.

The Scotsman twice made history for the legendary Brabham marque in 2021. Having achieved the first-ever class victory for a ‘customer’ Brabham BT62 Competition, Ross went on to achieve a first outright race victory in the world for the sleek machine at Silverstone in August.

Ross said: “I’m really looking forward to racing this very rare Brabham again. Obviously the aim is to claim the GTO title that Paul (Bailey) and I won two years ago.

“So long as we can consistently score podium placings then we should be in a good position in terms of the championship come the end of the season.

“I’m incredibly grateful to Paul for giving me the opportunity to race this iconic car once again.

“I was involved with the early development of the BT62 so it’s always a pleasure to race this car.”
