Young researchers challenged

A COMPETITION has been launched for keen young researchers in the region.

It is being organised by the local Antiquarians, who want to get more youngsters interested in the local heritage of Dumfries and Galloway.

They are challenging young people in S4, S5 and S6, or recent school leavers who have not yet begun higher education, to write an original piece of work on any topic relating to the human history or natural environment of the region.

Examples include the career of a local historical figure; the history of a significant local building/monument; or a study – perhaps a census – of local wildlife; or the importance of an exhibit in a museum.

Articles should contain between 1500 and 2500 words and may contain images. The winner will receive a prize of £250 and his/her paper will be published on the society’s website. The competition runs from June 1, with the deadline for entries being October 31.

To find out more and get a registration form go to the society’s website at https://dgnhas.org.uk and select the ‘about’ tab.
