Youth leisure pass idea

FREE taster sessions for young people at the region’s leisure facilities are among the ideas being mooted by youth councillors locally.

They have been meeting with councillors on a new joint action plan for the next couple of years that would benefit young people locally.

And one of the popular suggestions is to create a taster card for 12-18 year olds that enables them to access six or 12 free leisure sessions per year at the gym or for swimming, skating, coaching etc.

In addition, there has been talk of trials of library late night opening sessions between March and June to help those studying for exams.

Other discussions included Wi-fi being available in all council facilities, including town halls, libraries and public offices, and dedicated youth spaces created within existing council buildings in Stewartry and Mid and Upper Nithsdale.
